Cartography: I have received with the grief reports about the death of two great cartographers Ján Pravda († 17th February) from Slovakia and Jacques Bertin († 3rd May) from France, who played a key role in the conception of map language and cartographic sign. (10.05.2010)

Aesthetics >> Map´s creativity: In the course “Thematic Cartography” at Charles Univesity in Prague emerged a new "creative maps" (this year, nearly 100 pieces). The project is richly documented and the results of students are given in section Map´s Creativity. (21.12.2009)

Publications: Book on Cartography in CEE is published. The book is part of the series "Lecture Notes in Geoinformation and Cartography" published by Springer (as Cartography and Art book). It contains selected papers (including Various Ways of Assessment of Cartographic Works - written by me) of the symposium "Cartography in Central and Eastern Europe 2009" which was organized by Research Group Cartography TU Vienna together with the International Cartographic Association in February 2009. It contains selected papers of the symposium "Cartography and Art – Art and Cartography" which was organized by Research Group Cartography together with Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in February 2008. Aesthetics: The work group of ICA Art & Cartography on its website reflects the somewhat controversial work "Entropa" of artist David Cerny. (20.01.2009)
